Kyoko Nomura is a Japanese dancer, organizer, and administrator based in Kyoto, Japan. She co-leads Goda Kikaku, a collective company and planning group, alongside contemporary dancer Yuki Goda. Both Nomura and Goda were principal dancers in the Kyoto-based dance company Monochrome Circus for about a decade, gaining extensive stage experience in Japan and abroad before becoming independent in 2017.
Since 2017, Nomura has dedicated herself to Goda Kikaku, organizing and performing in workshops, events, and performances. Recent works include a collaborative dance with particle physicist Koji Hashimoto, directed by former Dumb Type member Eiichi Maeda. The piece, Every Day is a New Beginning, received the Kyoto University President’s Prize at the International Symposium on Art Science/Art Innovation Exhibition in 2019.
In 2018, Nomura participated in the Kyoto Art Center’s Artist-in-Residence program, which led her to Quartier am Hafen in Cologne, Germany. As part of a residency exchange program between Quartier am Hafen and Kyoto Art Center, she collaborated with Yuki Goda, Marje Hirvonen, Maria Mercedes Flores, Nikos Konstantakis, Darius Bogdanowicz, and visual artist Marianne Lindow on the interdisciplinary performance FEAR. This project explored the concept of fear from different cultural perspectives and was presented as a work-in-progress at Kyotobar in Cologne on January 25 and 26, 2019.
In 2022, Nomura was honored with the Kyoto City Special Encouragement for Arts and Culture.
