II. Quantum

Kyoto Art Center, June 2022

II. QUANTUM, the second movement of Consciousness: A String Theory Symphony, took the audience on a journey into the microscopic world of matter and its oscillations. The event, held at the Kyoto Art Center, featured live solo musical performances by Yannick Paget alongside a three-day exhibition and audio installation, showcasing a series of ceramic works by Toru Kurokawa.

The score, composed by Yannick Paget in collaboration with physicist Koji Hashimoto, explored the principle of resonance. According to quantum theory, the smallest units of matter existed simultaneously as particles and waves, governed by this very principle. The performances, incorporating percussion and electronics, also featured the ceramophone, a newly developed ceramic instrument created in collaboration with Toru Kurokawa.

The exhibition showcased a series of enigmatic sculptures by Toru Kurokawa, designed to explore the shapes of the different dimensions of the universe, offering a visual and tactile reflection on the nature of reality.
