Zuiou Shinozuka, born Hiroko Umetani, is a distinguished Japanese traditional dancer specializing in Kyō-mai, the classical dance style of Kyoto. She began her training in 1989 under the tutelage of the sixth head of the Shinozuka school, Shinozuka Mizuho, and adopted the stage name Zuiou Shinozuka in 1993.

Throughout her career, Shinozuka has performed extensively both in Japan and internationally. Notable domestic performances include appearances at the Kyoto Concert Hall, Gion Kobu Kaburenjo, and the Kamigamo Shrine Moon Viewing Festival. Internationally, she has showcased her art in countries such as the United States, Italy, Austria, Taiwan, Cyprus, and the United Kingdom. In 2019, she performed at the Japan Matsuri in London’s Trafalgar Square, presenting the refined elegance of Kyō-mai to a global audience.

In addition to her performances, Shinozuka has contributed to the world of opera through choreography, notably for productions like “Madama Butterfly” and “Hänsel und Gretel”. She is also dedicated to education, conducting workshops and classes to impart the traditions of Kyō-mai to new generations.
