Yannick Paget

Composer, conductor, performer

Yannick Paget is an eclectic French musician, graduated from the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP) in percussion and conducting and has an international career as a conductor and composer. He moved to Japan in 2005, invited by conductor Yutaka Sado to become associate conductor of the Hyōgo Performing Art Center.
Mastering a wide repertoire of symphonic and lyrical works, he conducts in France (Orchestre de Picardie, Orchestre Lamoureux, Orchestre Français des Jeunes) in Europe (Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Brasov Philharmonic Orchestra) in Japan (Osaka Kyoiku Orchestra, Kansai City Philharmonic Orchestra, Itami Philharmonic Orchestra, Hyōgo Performing Art Center Orchestra, Sakai City Orchestra) and in Asia (Taipei Symphony Orchestra). Since 2008 he has been a full professor at Osaka Kyoiku University.

Recent concerts include the production of Every Good Boy Deserves Favor (music by André Previn) with actor Shinichi Tsutsumi, at the Act Theatre in Tokyo and the Osaka Festival Hall as well as concerts in memory of the 30th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein’s death, with Ken Watanabe at Theatre Orb in Shibuya.

Yannick Paget is a laureate and finalist of several international competitions: Ireneu Segarra International Composing Competition 2009 (Spain), International competition of animation film music, Annecy 2013. He writes his music for various media – image (cinema, cartoon, documentary), theater (Théâtre du fracas) and the orchestra (his music is played by the HPAC Orchestra, the Concert Lamoureux, the Kansai City Philarmonic, the Taipei Symphony orchestra, the Osaka Kyoiku Orchestra).

Yannick Paget has composed many pieces inspired by his experience in Japan, Tears of Sakura (for violin and orchestra), Tanabata, (for orchestra and choir), Omote/Ura (for a cello duo). His pieces have been broadcast in France (France Musique, RTL, France Inter) and in the United States (Performance Today).

Conceptualizing a free and decompartmentalized vision of music, Yannick Paget leads many projects in the field of contemporary creation as a composer, conductor and instrumentalist (percussionist) and in particular with his ensemble N’SO KYOTO (creations at the Kyoto Art Center, Nuit Blanche, Ace Hotel Kyoto, the Urbanguild etc…creation for VR etc … ). From 2019, his interest in science and new technologies led him to collaborate with the physicist Koji Hashimoto and write performance related to physic : everyday is a new beginning, Gravitation, electriCCity, etc…). One of the the pieces presenting their research is awarded the Art Innovation 2019 prize by the president of Kyoto University. As a result of their research he produced Consciousness a String Theory symphony in 2022 performing between May and December 2022 in various locations in Kyoto, gathering an audience of more 2000 people.
