Mikio Kawahara is a Japanese Euphonium/Saxhorn player.
After graduating from ESA Music Academy (Osaka) , he moved to France in 1997,
earning a gold medal at the Lyon Conservatory and later graduating top of his class from the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP) in 2001.
While studying, he Awarded the Yamaha Europe Scholarship.
He won the Yamaha Europe Competition and the 6th Romania International Music Competition.
He has performed with the Orchstre National de France, the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra,
and participated in live TV recordings and CD sessions.
As an educator, he has conducted masterclasses at various conservatoires and hosting the Euphonium Camp Kansai.
he has given several recitals, including one in 2021, which was selected for Osaka City Grant Program.
Actively work on the premieres of new works and re-performances by Japanese composers.
Since 2022, he has been a member of N’SO KYOTO, contribution to its musical projects.
Kawahara has studied under Hiromasa Kimura, Isao Nakanishi, Philippe Frisch, and Fernand Lelong,
as well as Jens McManama and Gérard Buquet for chamber music. He has refined with Steven Mead at Swiss Brass Week.
Beyond performing, he serves as an official interpreter for the Kyoto France Music Academy and assists in masterclasses for French musicians.
He plays on〈Besson〉and〈A.Courtois〉instruments.
